The NABH assessment visit is the defining moment of your accreditation journey. Proper preparation can make the difference between a smooth accreditation and a stressful survey with major findings.
Based on our experience guiding 25+ healthcare facilities through NABH assessments, here are the most impactful preparation strategies.
6 Weeks Before Assessment
- Conduct a full mock assessment covering all NABH standards
- Ensure all non-conformances from internal audits are closed
- Verify all staff training records are current and documented
- Confirm equipment calibration and maintenance is up to date
- Review and refresh hand hygiene compliance
2 Weeks Before Assessment
- Brief all staff on the assessment process and their roles
- Organise all physical documents into an accessible file system
- Ensure crash cart, fire safety equipment, and emergency protocols are checked
- Walk through every patient care area identifying any obvious gaps
- Ensure patient identification bands are in use for all inpatients
Day Before Assessment
- Ensure all physical areas are clean, safe, and organized
- Prepare a brief folder for assessors (org chart, quality policy, scope)
- Brief the team on what to expect: assessors will interview staff, observe care, review records
- Ensure key personnel (lab director, quality manager, nursing supervisor) are available all day
During the Assessment
- Be honest and transparent — assessors are educators, not inspectors
- If you don’t know an answer, say so and offer to find out rather than guessing
- Accompany assessors through the facility and facilitate record access
- Note all findings for immediate action
